As a womenswear designer, I spent the last decade cutting my teeth in the New York City fashion industry under Yigal Azrouel and Richard Chai. My experiences range from serving as the Director of RTW for Rebecca Minkoff to being a Design Consultant for Rachel Comey. I have also freelanced at variety of other brands including Calvin Klein, DKNY, the Row, Opening Ceremony, Crippen and Rosetta Getty.
I founded a creative studio called Pulp for fun projects with friends. These include a short film with Ben Coulanges, Nothing and Everything and a webseries with Hamza Khan, J & Bettina.
Bo-Dy® is a fictional wearable devision at Boston Dynamics.
This devision proposes commercial solutions where robotics and electronics continue to merge with humans and their daily tasks. Case studies cover the hand and head.
This proposals reorganizes the “components” of the PAX loose leaf vaporize to recombine them through: (1) casing facade and (2) user maintenance.
Magic Speaker is a concept exploring the Apple "Magic" family which includes a keyboard and mouse. The design focuses on a soft outer structure that provides a “housing” and connects modular components in a functional manner.
Using the Magic Keyboard as logic for modern briefcases, a slim dock and leather structure holding together a touchscreen and wireless keyboard, this project reimagines a mobile listening station.
My methodology is concerned with the body and technology, and maintaining a collaborative environment. This is an ongoing series with Bayan Mashrequi making electronic artifacts for the body. We developed and co-taught a 3 credit course at RISD called Soft Tech. Our interdisciplinary class was an investigation into transhumanism through the making of personal devices. Due to COVID, the class was taught online through ZOOM and Youtube. Below are some selected student final projects. Click the link below the videos to see their instructables.
The virtual world exists out of physical processes that need to be worn. In a saturated XR market, cutting edge devices will incorporate representational aesthetics and offer both custom fit and modular components. These products will be built around audio, visual and haptic experiences that interface atop of the sensitive areas of the ear, eyes and nose.
Cartilage gives shape, support and structure to other body tissue and allows dexterity in joints as connective fibers. Flexible silicone pads in a similar way can bridge device and body in symbiosys. CMF considerations blend toward “skin tone” with shaping options for our unique dimensionalities
The Metaverse will be aided by peripheral devices that need to be worn on the body. This project includes lazer cut suede that is molded onto a flexible silicone case. An adjustable strap allows it to be worn on the neck or crossbody purse.
The concept encompasses case and technology as a whole. Instead of housing all components and functions into a AR headset, that factor into weight and cost, an accompanying coin device could aide in functions. The neck wallet utilizes Google's Project Soli, freeing up both hands to interact and engage with new world of IoT and digitized objects.
Role: EP (Pulp Studios) / Producer
After a crime takes place at a party, a group of attendees get brought in and questioned about the events that occurred.
This is a case study on designing a series of peripheral accessories around a device. How do these aesthetics communciate to form a cohesive narrative and add layers of UX.
The Uni-Tool is a unique handle that can be custom printed for specific hand sizes. It utilizes a natural twisting motion through it's gripable shape. With the squeeze design, a universal hex tool adapter can be fitted allowing for various types of bits.
My thesis deviates from a focus on originality, and instead engages in the creation of knowledge as a collaborative effort. In my process, creative flexibility is practiced through intellectual humility, negotiating methodologies and welcoming chance. I am inspired by ideas from Furtherfield’s Do-It-With-Other (DIWO) or Do-It- Together (DIT) philosophies that promote synergy around commons, cultural and natural resources that are accessible to all members of society.
